Traditional Herbal Salve for Nerves, Muscles & Joints

A deeply infused botanical salve combining St. John’s Wort and Comfrey with the warming, aromatic qualities of Wintergreen and Rosemary.

Inspired by traditional herbal preparations for sore, tired and overworked areas, this salve is designed for massage into muscles, joints and areas experiencing everyday aches and discomfort.

St. John’s Wort — A Traditional Nerve Herb

St. John’s Wort (Hypericum perforatum) is perhaps best known today as an internal herb, but it also has a long and fascinating history of topical use.

The flowering tops have traditionally been infused in oil, producing the characteristic deep ruby-red St. John’s Wort oil. Herbalists have historically used this oil externally for nerve-related discomfort, tender or sensitive areas, bruises, strains and muscular aches.

St. John’s Wort oil has also traditionally been massaged along areas experiencing shooting, radiating or nerve-type discomfort, which is why it has remained an important herb in traditional topical preparations.

Comfrey — Traditionally Known as “Knitbone”

Comfrey (Symphytum officinale) has been valued for centuries for external body and skin care.

Historically known as “knitbone,” comfrey poultices and topical preparations were traditionally used over bruises, sprains, strains and even fractures, reflecting its long association with injured and overworked tissues.

Comfrey naturally contains allantoin, a compound valued for its skin-conditioning properties, and has traditionally been used in preparations for rough or stressed skin as well as areas affected by everyday bumps and strains.

Its traditional history does not mean that comfrey salve can set or heal a broken bone. Suspected fractures or significant injuries require proper medical assessment.

Wintergreen — Traditional Warming Muscle & Joint Care

Wintergreen (Gaultheria procumbens) has a long history of topical use for sore muscles, stiff joints and everyday aches.

Wintergreen essential oil is naturally very high in methyl salicylate, a compound related to salicylates and responsible for its distinctive warming, penetrating character.

Only a small amount is needed, making wintergreen a powerful complement to the infused herbs in this salve.

Rosemary — Warming & Invigorating

Rosemary (Salvia rosmarinus) has traditionally been incorporated into massage oils, liniments and balms for tired muscles, stiff-feeling joints and overworked areas.

Its fresh, herbaceous aroma and warming character complement wintergreen while rounding out the deeper herbal qualities of St. John’s Wort and comfrey.

Olea Europaea (Olive) Fruit Oil (and) Symphytum Officinale Leaf Extract, Olea Europaea (Olive) Fruit Oil (and) Hypericum Perforatum Extract, Olea Europaea (Olive) Fruit Oil (and) Rosmarinus Officinalis Leaf Extract, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter, Cera Alba (Beeswax), Euphorbia Cerifera (Candelilla) Wax, Gaultheria Procumbens (Wintergreen) Leaf Oil, Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Oil.

How to Use

Massage a small amount into the desired area as needed. Particularly suited to tired or overworked muscles and joints and areas experiencing everyday aches or nerve-type discomfort.

For external use on intact skin only.

For external use only. Do not apply to broken or damaged skin. Avoid contact with eyes and mucous membranes. Wash hands after use.

Contains wintergreen (methyl salicylate). Do not use if allergic to aspirin or salicylates, while taking anticoagulant/blood-thinning medication unless advised by a healthcare professional, or on children. Avoid during pregnancy or breastfeeding unless advised by a qualified healthcare professional. Do not use with a heating pad or tightly occlusive covering.

Comfrey contains naturally occurring pyrrolizidine alkaloids (PAs) and is intended for external use only.

Discontinue use if irritation occurs. Keep out of reach of children.
